1. What should I do if I have any kind of problem with the program?

Our courses have been produced to a professional web publishing standard: they have been tested on different systems and have run as beta versions for months to provide you with an easy-to-use and flawless program. Since systems incompatibilities still exist for any online products, however, occasionally there may be technical problems.

Should you experience any problems while taking a course, please be patient: most of the time it is something simple that can be fixed very easily. Consult the online Help that you will find on the course page: the solution can usually be found there.

If you do not feel confident enough to try to solve the problem yourself or if you cannot find its cause, please send us an e-mail to admin@LearnPlus.com and explain, as precisely as you can, what is wrong. Remember to provide each of the following:
• which course you are taking (e.g. Spanish, German, etc.)
• the code of the error message you received, if an alert box popped up on your screen (e.g. #REG001, etc.)
• the browser version you are using (e.g. Explorer 6.0, Navigator 4.5, etc.)
• the platform you work on (e.g. Windows 95, 98, 2000, ME, XP, NT, Mac, etc.)
• the amount of RAM your system has (e.g. 64 Mb, 128 Mb, etc.)
• whether you are using a Macintosh computer and, if you are, which type it is (e.g. PowerMac 6100/60, G3, etc.)
• whether you are using CompuServe, AmericaOnLine, or @Home as direct browser or just as service provider.
If you do not know how to find out the above information, please tell us and we will try to find out together.

In any case, report in your message anything that may be relevant (e.g. whether you had been online the whole time when you experienced problems with the program, what you could see on the page, etc.): any detail can be useful. A message stating "I cannot use the course" doesn't help us help you, so please try to give us all the pertinent information you can.

3. What is Shockwave?

In short, Shockwave is a multimedia player that plays back movies in a browser. Distribution agreements with Microsoft, Netscape, Apple, AmericaOnLine, and others make it a number one multimedia playback technology.

Shockwave is easy to download and free. If you do not have the latest player, please read our Technotes to learn more.

5. I've installed Shockwave, but I can't use your program. What am I doing wrong?

Maybe the Shockwave player is not working or it has not been installed correctly. You should check the page of the Macromedia website which deals with Shockwave installation problems (see URL below). There you can test your player to see if it is working and you can check which settings are required to use Shockwave with your system.

Please visit the Macromedia Shockwave Support page:
http://www.macromedia.com/support/shockwave/
For many problems, you can find a solution at the Macromedia website. Consult their Shockwave Support Center.

7. Do I need to be online the whole time while I take the course?

No. If you cannot or do not wish to study online, you just need to be connected during the time necessary to log into the course and access the lesson or part of the course that you wish to take. A red, blinking sign turns to green once all the elements of a section have been loaded; at this point you can disconnect and work with that section offline.
In the new version of our program (Deutsch 1), you can also use the Preload page to load the lessons you wish to take to your local cache: you can preload any feature before you actually view it and access it later without a further loading delay. This way you can take the preloaded lessons offline.
Note that you will need to be online to do the following: log in; send your tests or quizzes to the tutor; check the mail from the tutor or send messages to the tutor; or submit your score to the scoreboard of the learning games.
