This class has been designed to teach German idioms in the most effective way using text, audio, and images. The Idioms Class consists of several chapters. Each chapter has a section where you are introduced to the idiomatic expressions in context. The German idioms and examples are presented with colorful images to aid memorization, audio files, and full translations into English. You further practice vocabulary, comprehension, and use to make sure you understand the meaning of each phrase and the situation in which it can be employed. There are also exercises about word order, grammar, and spelling to reinforce your knowledge of German. When you are ready, you can check your progress with the multimedia test. All the idioms of this class can also be printed as flashcards. Idioms, examples, and translations can be printed so that you can also study away from the computer.
4. Is there a fixed time schedule to take the Idioms Class?
A three-month time period has been allotted
for taking the class, but within this time frame there is no fixed schedule
so you
can
study at your own pace. This program offers great flexibility. You can
take the class whenever and wherever you want: home, workplace, school,
Internet café... If you print the idioms, you can also study away
from the computer.
For best results, try to avoid long breaks between
one study session and the next. If you study regularly, even in short
sessions, you can ensure a more effective progress and better, faster
results. If you need more than three months, you can easily renew your
enrollment on a monthly basis.
5. Is what I study useful?
Idioms are an integral part of the way German-speaking people express themselves. If you study idioms, you can bring your German to the highest level of proficiency. In this colorful, interactive program, you will learn common German phrases and practice them extensively. 6. Can I print out the idioms?
Yes, absolutely. While the Idioms Class is an online program, if you want you can print all the idioms in a flashcard-like format and study away from the computer. The multimedia material (audio and images) is part of the online class only, but print-outs are available simply by clicking the Print Cards button on the navigation bar of the program. Each German phrase is printed together with an example in German and translations into English.
7. Do I need to be online the whole time while I take the Idioms Class?
No. If you want you can just be connected to the Internet during the time necessary to log into the class and load the chapter that you wish to study. If you start taking the Learn Idioms section online, all the other sections will be downloaded by the time you are finished with it. Alternatively, you can use the Preload Sound button to load the chapter's sound files to your computer's cache. You will be alerted on the screen when the loading is finished. At that point, you can disconnect and study offline.
