Fortunately Vienna has a very low crime-rate. This means that all areas of the city are safe, including at night. Even pick-pocketing is quite uncommon. However, keep the usual level of attentiveness, especially on buses, trams, subway, and in areas frequented by tourists.

If you need to report a crime, go to the nearest police station, signed with a red-white-red "Polizei" sign. The emergency number for the police is 133. Policemen walking around in the center usually speak some English.
